| Jim Mather MSP Visits Green Ocean Energy At All Energy |

Jim Mather MSP visited the company’s stand where he spent time speaking to the team and was shown their unique wave power devices. George Smith, managing director of Green Ocean Energy said: “We were delighted by the interest Mr Mather showed in our technology. He seems very committed to developing Scotland’s renewable energy sector and we look forward to speaking to him again as our company grows. He has expressed an interest in attending a demonstration of our prototype and we will be arranging that over the coming months.” The company enjoyed an unprecedented level of interest in its devices during the exhibition and has begun discussions with a number of major energy companies as a result. Green Ocean Energy has developed two wave power devices, Wave Treader and Ocean Treader. Using similar technology, the devices harness wave energy and convert the motion into electricity. Wave Treader attaches to an offshore wind turbine to provide combined wind and wave energy thereby boosting the relatively low efficiency rates of standalone offshore wind turbines. Ocean Treader is a stand-alone, fully floating device designed for offshore ocean deployment. A scale prototype has recently undergone testing at the New and Renewable Energy Centre (NaREC) in Blyth and also at the wave tank at the University of Strathclyde. The results of the latest round of testing are expected to be announced in August. |
Green Ocean Energy’s cutting-edge wave power technology attracted the attention of Scotland’s Minister for Business, Enterprise and Tourism at All Energy – the UK’s largest renewable energy exhibition and conference.
